SplitPlate · Last updated April 16, 2026
Effective Date: April 16, 2026
SplitPlate ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our web application at splitplate.ai and any related services (collectively, the "Service"). Please read this policy carefully. If you disagree with its terms, please discontinue use of the Service.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide Directly
When you create an account, we collect your name and email address via our OAuth authentication provider (Manus). We do not store your password directly — authentication is handled by the OAuth provider.
When you use the Recipe Adapter, we process the recipe content you submit (pasted text, URLs, or uploaded images) solely to generate an adapted recipe result. We also collect the settings you configure, such as child age group, food aversions, and serving sizes.
When you save a recipe or add one to your Meal Planner, we store that data in your account so you can access it later.
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
We automatically collect certain technical information when you use the Service, including your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referring URLs, pages viewed, and the date and time of your visit. This information is used to operate, maintain, and improve the Service.
We use session cookies to keep you logged in. These cookies are essential to the operation of the Service and cannot be disabled without preventing you from using authenticated features.
1.3 Information We Do Not Collect
We do not collect payment card information directly. If we introduce paid subscriptions in the future, payment processing will be handled by a third-party provider (such as Stripe) and we will only receive a tokenized reference, not your full card details.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. The Service is intended for use by adults on behalf of their families.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
| Purpose | Legal Basis |
|---|---|
| Provide and operate the Service (authentication, recipe adaptation, saving, meal planning) | Contract performance |
| Personalize your experience (apply your saved profile defaults) | Contract performance |
| Communicate with you about your account or the Service | Contract performance / Legitimate interest |
| Analyze usage patterns to improve the Service | Legitimate interest |
| Comply with legal obligations | Legal obligation |
| Detect and prevent fraud or abuse | Legitimate interest |
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your recipe data or family information for advertising purposes.
3. How We Share Your Information
We share your information only in the following limited circumstances:
3.1 Service Providers
We work with third-party service providers who assist us in operating the Service, including cloud hosting, database services, and AI inference providers. These providers are contractually obligated to use your information only to perform services on our behalf and to protect it with appropriate security measures.
3.2 Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, court order, or governmental authority, or if we believe in good faith that such disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of SplitPlate, our users, or the public.
3.3 Business Transfers
If SplitPlate is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or substantially all of its assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via email and/or a prominent notice on the Service before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
4. Data Retention
We retain your account information and saved recipes for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or compliance purposes.
Recipe content you submit for adaptation is processed in real time and is not stored beyond what is necessary to generate and display your result. If you choose to save a recipe, that saved copy is retained in your account until you delete it.
5. Data Security
We implement industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These include encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), hashed session tokens, and access controls on our database.
No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:
| Right | Description |
|---|---|
| Access | Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you |
| Correction | Request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete data |
| Deletion | Request that we delete your personal data (subject to legal retention obligations) |
| Portability | Request your data in a machine-readable format |
| Objection | Object to processing based on legitimate interests |
| Restriction | Request that we restrict processing of your data in certain circumstances |
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.
7. Cookies
We use only essential session cookies required for authentication and to maintain your logged-in state. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or tracking pixels. You can configure your browser to refuse cookies, but doing so will prevent you from using authenticated features of the Service.
8. Children's Privacy
The Service is designed for use by adults (parents and caregivers) who may configure settings on behalf of their children. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately at [email protected] and we will delete it promptly.
9. International Users
The Service is operated from the United States. If you are accessing the Service from outside the United States, please be aware that your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy on this page with an updated effective date and, where appropriate, by sending you an email notification. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of the revised policy constitutes your acceptance of the changes.
